Chapter 6

I woke up on Sunday morning with a pounding headache. I tried to sit up, but the pain sent me reeling back towards some very luscious pillows. A string of curses flew from my lips in a scratchy voice.

“Oh, my goodness.”I groaned, still trying to lift my eyelids. I stayed that way for about five more seconds until I realized that I was not in my own bed.“Wait, where am I?”The thought that I had been kidnapped and sold to some sheik to be his sex slave passed through my mind, then I heard Gemma humming in the hallway. She opened the door to the bedroom I was in and peeked at me.

“Morning sleepy head!”she chirped a little too cheerfully.“I brought you something for your hangover.”

“You’re way too happy, cut that out,”I grumbled as I covered my face with a pillow.

“You’re grumpy in the morning too, how cute!”

Sitting up, I grabbed the plastic cup she handed to me and took a sniff.“What the hell is this?”It was putrid smelling.

“‘Hangover Remedy Number Five,’”she said holding all of her fingers up.

“Yeah, well, it stinks.”

“Just drink it, grumpy pants.”

I pinched my nose together and started trying to chug it back as quickly as possible. Instead, I kept gagging and choking on it; that garbage was worse than cough medicine. Finally, after I had swallowed the last of the repugnant‘Hangover Remedy Number Five’I looked to Gemma for answers.

“Is this your place?”I asked.

“Yeah, its my townhouse. You said you didn’t want to go home, so I just had Kyle carry you on in and put you in the guest bedroom.”

“Kyle was carrying me?! This is soembarrassing.”With my head in my hands I tried to remember what else had transpired, but all I could remember was me and Kyle’s little encounterin the office and then walking out to Gemma who handed me another mojito. After that, everything was a blur.“I’m just glad y’all didn’t undress me.”Gemma only grinned at me. I rolled my eyes at her, shamefully wondered if she knew that I’d had sex with her brother. With a sigh, I started to make my way off of the plush mattress.

“Where are you going?”Gemma asked.

“Um, I’m going home.”

“But you don’t want to go home. Look, I’ve got a change of clothes for you to wear. This room has a bathroom in it and there are towels, washcloths, a toothbrush, and toothpaste already waiting in there. Take a shower and then come downstairs. I want to talk to you about something.”

I really should have been getting home, my father was probably worried about me. However, it was nice to have a reprieve from my thoughts and the constant planning of Angelique’s wedding, which was still four months away. I actually kind of felt like I was on a vacation, so I didn’t put up much of a fight when Gemma bossed me around. She was right, I didn’t want to go home at that moment or even anytime that year. I walked into a nicely tiled bathroom and turned the water nozzle until it was at the right temperature.
